Pdp-12 P M Procedures

This document serves as a guide for Digital Equipment Corporation field service personnel regarding the preventive maintenance (PM) of PDP-12 computer systems. The manual is intended to supplement the official PDP-12 Maintenance Manual and aims to increase the Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) and decrease the Mean Time To Repair (MTTR).

The document is structured as follows:

• Introduction: Explains the purpose of the manual and the standard format used for each subsystem's maintenance procedures (Equipment/Material Required, Inspection, Voltage Checks, Adjustments, Diagnostic Testing, and Cleaning/Touchup).
• Equipment and Material: Provides a comprehensive list of tools, diagnostic software, and materials required for the various maintenance tasks.
• Maintenance Procedures: Contains detailed, step-by-step preventive maintenance instructions for major PDP-12 subsystems, including the 724 Power Supply, console, cabling, TU56 Tape Drive, and various controllers (TC12, VC12, VR12, VR14, AD12, KW12, EM12, MC12, DR12, KE12, DM12, and KF12).
• System Wrapup: Outlines the final steps for concluding the maintenance process.
• Appendix A: Details the operating procedures for the Chaining Monitor Diagnostic System (CMDS).
• Appendix B: Includes a formal PDP-12 PM Procedure Checklist to be used by service engineers to record completed tasks.
