Lap6-Dial Supplement

This document serves as a supplement to the LAP6-DIAL Programmer’s Reference Manual (DEC-12-SE2D-D). It outlines new features, system improvements, and corrections for the DIAL-MS system, which is used on PDP-12 computer configurations.

Key highlights include:

• New Features: Added support for up to four RK8 disks, the LP08 line printer, multiple card deck input, and disk bootstrapping. A new "CHAIN" pseudo-op allows for the assembly of large programs by chaining source files together.

• System Improvements:

  • Disk Handling: Detailed instructions on addressing storage devices and managing RK8 disk configurations.
  • PIP (Peripheral Interchange Program): Updated to handle multiple card decks and improved to allow faster reboots.
  • Editor: Enhanced automatic formatting (controllable via Sense Switch 0) and the addition of a flickering cursor for better visibility.

• System Initialization: Simplified procedures for initialization and system building by removing the requirement for an explicit "EXIT" command.

• Corrections: A list of specific errata for the original LAP6-DIAL Programmer’s Reference Manual, including clarified switch settings, updated error messages, and command syntax fixes.
