The DeVIAS Letter

Summary

This document is a May 1984 issue of the DECUS (Digital Equipment Computer Users Society) U.S. Chapter newsletter, containing two sections: "The RSX Multi-Tasker" and "The DeVIAS Letter" (the IAS SIG newsletter).

The RSX Multi-Tasker section includes:

• Editor's Notes: Announcements regarding article submission policies and technical tips, including a note on the PRO/350.
• Technical Discussions: A troubleshooting guide regarding file deletion behavior with PIP, a list of requested menu items for RSX, and a report on the INDEX (11-229) utility.
• Help Yourself & News: User queries regarding RSX-to-IBM floppy transfers and reports from various working groups, including library, SIG tape, and unsupported versions.
• Software Tips/Patches: Documentation for the "DTC" (Desk Top Calendar) utility; a workaround for [1,2]LOGIN.TXT using the LBL Software Tools' "TC" feature; and detailed technical patches to fix pool depletion problems in the terminal driver (TTDRV) and fixes for the TDX utility.
• Printer Utilities: Three routines by Raymond Willis for spooling, changing printer pitch/margins, and a program to control LA120 printer settings.
• Programming: Discussions on handling quotes in indirect symbols.

The DeVIAS Letter (IAS SIG Newsletter, Issue No. 21) includes:

• Editor's Note: Reflections on the state of the DECUS community and the PDP platform.
• Letters: Correspondence from Robert Curley regarding IAS vs. RSTS/E, and from Frank R. Borger regarding a serious bug found in DSC.
• Technical Documentation: A detailed set of operating instructions for the "SRX" utility (a FILES-11 directory manipulation task), covering its functions, hardware requirements, command formats, switch options, and console output messages.
