Cover Letter for VAXstation™ 3100, Model 76 System

Order Number: EK-VMS31-CL

This document provides important release notes for the VAXstation 3100 Model 76 system, covering several key areas:

  1. Mouse Performance: For optimal performance with the Model 76's unique "feet" mouse (instead of a ball), users should set "Pointer" in the Session Manager's Customize menu and "Pointer Acceleration" (mouse speed) to "Fast."
  2. SPX Graphics Upgrade Boot Failure: If upgrading to an SPX graphics option causes the system to fail to boot (with a DECwindows-specific error), the document provides detailed steps to adjust the SYSGEN parameter SPTREQ to 2800. The procedure varies based on whether the system is part of a cluster or not, including specific boot and SYSGEN commands. This boot issue is slated for correction in a future VMS release.
  3. AUTOGEN Configuration: To avoid potential performance problems, the AUTOGEN parameter LOCKDIRWT should be set to 0 instead of its default 1.
  4. Specific System Crash Output: If a system crash dump analysis shows SYSLOA+00D2C in the stack, users should ignore this specific output and simply reboot; the system will resume normal operations. This behavior will be corrected in the next VMS maintenance release.
