VAX/VMS UETP User’s Guide

This document is the VAX/VMS UETP User's Guide, published by Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) in March 1980 for VAX/VMS V02.

It serves as a comprehensive guide to the User Environment Test Package (UETP), a suite of tests designed to verify the proper functioning of both hardware and software components within a VAX/VMS system. The guide outlines:

• The role and function of UETP, explaining that it simulates a typical timesharing environment to ensure components work individually and as an integrated system, and its relationship to error-logging and diagnostics.

• Detailed operating instructions for preparing the system and devices (disks, magnetic tapes, terminals, line printers), defining UETP variables, and running the UETP. This includes how to run the entire test package or individual phases such as:

  • Initialization Phase
  • Device Test Phase (for various peripherals)
  • Native Mode Test Phase (system services, VAX-11 SORT, VAX-11 RMS)
  • System Load Test (simulating multiple users)
  • Compatibility Mode Test (RSX-11M utilities and executive directives)

• Guidance on interpreting UETP output and messages, explaining the format of system messages and providing an alphabetical list of common UETP messages with their explanations and suggested user actions.

The primary audience for this guide includes VAX-11 manufacturing technicians, Digital field service, and software support personnel, although customers may also use it to run and interpret UETP results.
