Rk05 - Quarterly Procedure

This document outlines the quarterly maintenance procedure for RK05 Disk Drives used in fuel handling operations. The primary objective is to ensure the drives are operating correctly, power supplies are within specified limits, and the disk heads are properly aligned.

Key procedures include:

• Cleaning and Inspection: Initial diagnostics using the PDP8/e processor, inspection of prefilters, shock mounts, electrical components (LEDs, switches, logic pins), and head inspection using an inspection mirror to identify contamination or damage.
• Power Supply Checks: Verification of +5 Vdc, +15 Vdc, and -15 Vdc logic voltages, including ripple measurement and adjustment instructions for the regulators.
• Head Alignment: A detailed diagnostic process involving the use of an oscilloscope to check and, if necessary, physically adjust the alignment of the bottom and upper heads to cylinder 105.
• Index/Sector Timing: Verification that timing pulses occur within the specified range (70 ± 12 µs), with instructions for adjustment if they fall outside tolerances.

The document also provides specific safety cautions regarding potential high-voltage shorts, mechanical pinch points, and the extreme sensitivity of disk cartridges to contamination.
