This document describes a modified version of the PS/8 Peripheral Interchange Program (PIP), which introduces two new options—/M (mark) and /W (write)—to allow users to label paper tapes with legible symbols.
/M (mark) option: Punches the current system date (as set by the .DATE command) onto the paper tape in a readable format. If no date is set, it punches eight blank frames./W (write) option: Punches the contents of the first input file onto the tape in a legible format. This option is designed to be used after the /M option, so that the date precedes the label text. The first input file can also be a TTY device, allowing the user to manually type a label. After these initial labeling steps, the program proceeds to process any remaining input files as standard ASCII or binary transfers according to the user's specifications.
