Summary

QUANAT 1 is a general-purpose conversational display subroutine written in LAP6, designed to work with DECUS systems. It allows for the display of alphanumeric text on a screen, automatically centered vertically, with support for up to eight lines of text.

Key features include:

  • Interactive Input: The subroutine uses question marks to designate areas where an operator must input data via the keyboard. Entries must be terminated by an "End of Line" signal.
  • Editing: It supports single-character deletion using a "delete" key.
  • Technical Requirements: The program occupies 376 octal memory locations and utilizes index registers 15, 16, and 17. It requires specific jump and address references to store and display text.
  • Formatting: Text must be formatted with specific end-of-text flags (77 octal) and designated keyboard entry areas (bounded by 76 octal/CASE G).

This software was authored by John Hogan at the Weston Observatory, Boston College, and was released in June 1971. The project was supported by the Air Force Cambridge Research Laboratories under contract F19628-69-C-0011.
