Bioelectric Signal Sorter (Julia)

Order Number: XX-XXXXX-XX

This document is a technical write-up for the JULIA program, designed to run on a PDP-12 computer system. JULIA is an application for the automatic sorting and time-based analysis of biological action potentials (such as EMG signals).

The program operates in two primary phases:

  • Phase 1: Incoming analog signals are compared against "template" units using a mean-square-error algorithm. Similar signals are automatically sorted and updated, while dissimilar signals are buffered to LINCtape for further processing.
  • Phase 2: This phase allows for the manual, semi-automatic resolution of complex, overlapping interference potentials by recalling buffered data and allowing the operator to subtract template units from the signal.

The software provides various statistical outputs, including interval-time plots, joint-interval histograms, and interval-distribution histograms. It also includes features for data storage, retrieval, calibration, and editing, as well as the ability to drive an external X-Y plotter for visual output. The document includes technical details on hardware requirements, loading procedures, operational instructions, and internal memory organization.
