DECnet—ULTRIX

This document is the "DECnet-ULTRIX Use" manual, published by Digital Equipment Corporation in May 1990. It serves as both a tutorial and reference guide for end users of DECnet-ULTRIX software on ULTRIX systems.

The manual's primary purpose is to instruct users on how to perform various tasks across a DECnet network, including:

• Remote Login: Using the dlogin command to connect to and interact with remote DECnet nodes (including other ULTRIX systems or VMS).

• File Management: Viewing directories (dls), displaying and concatenating files (dcat), copying files (dcp), and deleting files (drm) on remote DECnet nodes.
• File Specification: Details on specifying remote files, using wildcard characters, and supplying access-control information (manual entry, aliases, proxy access).

The document also introduces other DECnet-ULTRIX features such as the DECnet-Internet Gateway (for file transfer, remote login, and mail between DECnet and Internet systems), the programming interface, and network management capabilities. It highlights that DECnet-ULTRIX commands generally adhere to standard ULTRIX conventions.

Appendices cover error messages and detailed file specification formats for various DECnet systems (DECnet-ULTRIX, DECnet-VAX, DECnet-RSX, DECnet-IAS, DECnet/E, DECnet-10, DECnet-20, DECnet-RT, DECnet-DOS).
