DECnet—ULTRIX Programming

This document, "DECnet-ULTRIX Programming" (Order Number AA-EA88D-TE, May 1990), is a comprehensive manual for programmers developing client and server applications within the DECnet-ULTRIX environment (version 4.0). The DECnet-ULTRIX product enables an ULTRIX system to function as an end node in a DECnet network, implementing Digital Network Architecture (DNA) Phase IV.

The manual is structured into two main parts:

• Part I (Overview): Introduces fundamental DECnet-ULTRIX programming concepts (such as network objects, communication domains, sockets, I/O modes, access control, and optional data) and programming tools (including the DECnet library's dnet_conn and dnet_eof subroutines, the object spawner, and system calls). It explains how to establish connections, transfer data, and disconnect.
• Part II (Reference): Provides detailed descriptions of DECnet-ULTRIX system calls and subroutines.
• Appendices: Include definitions of DECnet data structures and practical programming examples.
