DEC FDDIcontroller/PCI

This document serves as release notes for new Single-Mode Fiber (SMF) adapters added to the DEC FDDIcontroller/PCI (DEFPA) family of adapters. It describes four specific models:

1. DEFPA-SB: A single attachment station (SAS) adapter using Class I laser SMF duplex optics with SC connectors.
2. DEFPA-WB: A dual attachment station (DAS) adapter using Class I laser SMF duplex optics with SC connectors and an RJ-12 connector for an optional optical bypass relay (OBR).
3. DEFPA-FB: A mixed-media DAS adapter with Class I laser SMF duplex optics (SC connectors) on Port A and multimode fiber (MMF) duplex optics on Port B.
4. DEFPA-HB: A mixed-media DAS adapter with MMF duplex optics on Port A and Class I laser SMF duplex optics (SC connectors) on Port B.

All adapters plug into a single bus master PCI I/O slot, feature onboard diagnostics, and have LEDs to indicate operating status. The document also details single-mode fiber connection specifications, including a maximum distance of 60 KM between stations with an assumed 22 dB power budget, and mentions the need for hybrid connector adapters when interconnecting products with mismatched connector types (e.g., SC to ST or FC). A list of cable and SMF fiber attenuator vendors is also provided.
