This document provides a quick guide for installing and configuring the DIGITAL MultiSwitch Hub 624T module. It covers the necessary items for installation, including the 624T module, a host system (DIGITAL MultiSwitch 600 Stack Station/Stack Director or DEChub 900 MultiSwitch), a setup port device, and optional components like Carrier Cards, MM-10s, or a 10BaseT Expansion Port Group. For detailed instructions and safety, the full "Installation and Configuration manual" is recommended.
The installation process is broken down into several parts:
Installing Optional Cards: Before placing the 624T module into its host system, any optional cards (MM-10 option cards or the 12-port 10BaseT Expansion Port Group, but not both) must be installed into the 624T module itself, following their respective installation sheets. Note that the Expansion Port Group and Carrier Card are not hot-swappable, while MM-10 cards are.
Installing the Module into a Stack Director or Stack Station: This involves placing the module's mounting tab into the host's slot, securing it with a thumbscrew, and then connecting MM-10 and 10BaseT cables. Users may also need to install and start clearVISN software.
Installing the Module in a DEChub 900 MultiSwitch: This process requires first understanding module concepts from the full manual and installing optional cards (as per Part 1). Then, users must check power requirements, place the module's mounting tab, pivot it to align with the backplane connector, firmly push it into place, lock it, and verify the Power OK and Module OK LEDs before connecting MM-10 and 10BaseT cables.
Cabling the Ports: Instructions are provided for connecting both MM-10 and 10BaseT cables. For MM-10s, it details aligning transmit/receive connectors for 10BaseFL (ST-type fiber optic) or other connector types (BNC for 10Base2, DB-15 for AUI/Reverse AUI). For 10BaseT, it describes connecting 8-pin MJ connectors and provides guidance on using straight-through or crossover cables depending on the device.
Configuring the Module: Configuration is done via a setup port device (PC or terminal) connected to the host system (Stack Station, Stack Director, or DEChub 900 MultiSwitch) at 9600 baud. The "MS Hub 624T INSTALLATION" menu is accessed differently based on the host system (pressing Return for Stack Station; selecting option 9 for Stack Director/DEChub 900). Product-specific options can be configured via this menu or, for Stack Director/DEChub 900, using clearVISN Stack Manager or MultiChassis Manager software. The module must be restarted for changes to take effect.
