ATMworks 350 Adapter Installation and Service

Order Number: EK-DGLPB-IN

This manual provides instructions for installing and verifying the ATMworks 350 adapter in a PCI local bus-compatible system.

The ATMworks 350 adapter is a high-performance, full-duplex ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) module that acts as an end-station interface between a PCI local bus system and an ATM User-Network Interface (UNI) compliant network. It supports 155 Mbps multimode fiber optic cabling (SC connectors) with SONET/SDH framing, AAL5, FLOWmaster™ flow control, 2048 virtual channels, and various quality of service options (CBR, UBR). The adapter delivers 32-bit DMA transfers at 132 Mbps and includes support for Classical-IP over ATM, PVCs, SVCs, SNMP, Q.93B/Q.2931, IP encapsulation, ATM UNI 3.0/3.1, and LAN Emulation 1.0.

System requirements include a full-size PCI option slot (12.28 x 4.2 inches), PCI bus master capability, compliance with PCI Rev. 2.0, a 3.5-inch floppy disk drive, and SC cables. Compatible systems include Alpha PCs, servers, workstations, Intel-based PCs/servers, and Power PCs. The adapter requires 5.35V (14.7125 W) power and is not compatible with 3.3V signaling or 3.3V-only PCI systems. Environmental specifications detail operating temperatures from 5°C to 50°C and 10% to 95% relative humidity. Supported operating systems include Digital UNIX V3.2C or later, Windows NT, and Novell Server, with drivers and additional information provided on distribution diskettes. Specific Alpha systems require minimum console software revisions.

Installation involves preparing the system (shutting down, powering off, disconnecting cables, using anti-static precautions), removing the system cover and an option slot cover, and then inserting the ATMworks 350 adapter into an available PCI slot. Finally, multimode fiber optic cables are connected to the adapter's SC transmit and receive ports. Users are advised to consult the provided README.TXT file on the diskettes for operating system-specific information and troubleshooting.
