This document describes the capabilities, installation, and configuration of the DIGITAL ATM Virtual Path (VP) Modular PHY (modPHY) Card (DAGVP-AA), released in March 1997. It is designed for use with the ATM 4-port modular line card (DAGGL-BA) and GIGAswitch/ATM firmware to provide wide-area networking features.
The ATM VP modPHY card enables the DAGGL-BA line card to function as a single Wide Area Network (WAN) port, capable of terminating up to three Virtual Path Connections (VPCs). These VPCs facilitate a mesh of VP tunnels between remote sites, supporting VP-level traffic shaping for Constant Bit Rate (CBR) or Variable Bit Rate (VBR) VPs, and also supporting VPI 0.
Installation involves removing any existing modPHY card or slot cover from port 4 of the DAGGL-BA line card, positioning the new VP modPHY card parallel to the slot, inserting it into port 4, pushing it until flush, and securing it with captive screws. Ports 2 and 3 should remain empty.
Configuration of line cards in VP mode is done using the switch -slot command, with changes requiring a system reboot. Virtual Paths (VPs) are managed using the pvp command for creation, deletion, display, and modification, while Virtual Circuits (VCs) within a VP are managed with the pvc command.
