This document provides a quick reference guide for installing the FR-PCSMA-xx memory option in DIGITAL Server 5300 and 7300/7300R systems.
Safety Precautions:
- Allow 2 minutes after power removal before touching hot memory or CPU modules.
- Always wear an antistatic wrist strap.
- When installing DIMMs, hold the memory card by its outer edges; avoid laying it flat to prevent damage.
General Overview:
The installation process involves exposing the system board/drawer, installing the memory option, and verifying the installation.
DIGITAL Server 5300 Installation:
- Shut down the operating system and power off the system.
- Remove the top cover and left side panel to expose the system board.
- Unscrew the module handle and gently pull out the memory card.
- While holding the new memory card, align the DIMM(s) in the connector(s) and press down until the connector levers close. Repeat for each riser card/DIMM.
- Screw in the module handle and gently push the memory card back into its slot.
- Verify the installation by starting AlphaBIOS Setup, selecting "Display System Configuration," and then "MC Bus Configuration" to view the new memory option's status.
DIGITAL Server 7300/7300R Installation:
- Expose the System Drawer:
- Pedestal: Shut down and power off. Open and remove the front door, then remove the top cover (two Phillips head screws, tilt, and lift off).
- H9A10-EN/EP Cabinet: (Requires qualified personnel) Open the front door, pull out the stabilizer bar, extend the leveler foot, unplug power supplies, and slide the drawer out until it locks.
- Install Memory Option:
- Remove the cover from the system card cage section (two Phillips head screws, slide off).
- Determine the correct slot locations, inserting the largest memory first (e.g., slots 0 Low/High, then 1 Low/High, etc.).
- Insert each module into its slot and tighten the flathead captive screw on the top brace.
- Verify Installation:
- Replace the system bus card cage cover. Press the HALT button to "IN" and power up the system, ensuring power-up diagnostics pass.
- From the SRM console, issue the
show memory and test memn (where 'n' is the memory pair or '*' for all) commands.
- Alternatively, use AlphaBIOS Setup: select "Display System Configuration," then "MC Bus Configuration" to check the new memory option's status.
