FCO DRB32-0003, Simultaneous intermittent timeout problems

Order Number: EQ-01542-01

This document is a Field Change Order (FCO DRB32-0003) detailing the solution for "simultaneous intermittent timeout problems" affecting DRB32-C options. This issue occurs during data transfer between VAX and Cray systems, potentially leading to system crashes.

The FCO mandates upgrading all DRB32-C options and T1026 field service spares to revision "E1" modules, which include specific wiring modifications (wires added at location E50, pins 11, 12, and 13). It applies to all DRB32-C options and is relevant for various VAX systems, including 62XX, 82XX/83XX (Configuration I and II), and VAX 85X0/8700/88X0/89X0 models.

The installation procedure, estimated to take one hour, involves safely shutting down the system, observing electrostatic discharge (ESD) precautions, removing the old T1026 module, installing the new "E1" revision T1026 module, completing a non-conforming material tag for the old module, and returning it for upgrading. After installation, the system is powered back on, and diagnostics (EVDRJ.EXE) are run to test the module. The FCO also requires updating site management guides and reporting activity on LARS forms. The FCO was released on May 8, 1989, with parts availability from April 1989, and impacts an affected population of 60 units.
