FCO DEBET-I001, Nodes running RBMS, minor Microcode problems

Order Number: EQ-01479-O01

This document is a Field Change Order (FCO DEBET-I001) for the DEBET family of Ethernet Bridges (models DEBET-AA, AB, RC, RD) at Revision Level D7 or below. Its primary purpose is to resolve various microcode problems affecting nodes running Remote Bridge Management Software (RBMS) and to implement a "down line loading" feature essential for LAN traffic monitoring.

The FCO addresses a range of issues, including:

  • Lack of notification when a root bridge fails.
  • Network flooding if the Ethernet address table becomes full.
  • Forwarding of illegal loopback messages.
  • Multiple inaccuracies with bridge counters (Frame Sent, Packet Transmit, Forwarding Entries Lost, Filter Frame).
  • Unintended RBMS reply broadcasts.
  • Broadcast address presence in the Address Table upon initialization.
  • Loss of "do not forward broadcast messages" configuration after a power failure.

The rework procedure involves replacing existing microcode ROMs (245E5 at E131 and 246E5 at E132) with updated versions (293E5 and 294E5, respectively) and installing new "E" and "7" Brady Markers on the unit's rear label. The estimated installation time is 1.0 hour, and the FCO is applicable to an estimated 400 units.
