FCO 882BA-R002 Rev B, F1005

Address bit 23 causes cache prob.

Order Number: 19-22596-00

This Field Change Order (FCO 882BA-R002, Revision B, released May 27, 1987) mandates a retrofit for all VAX 8800 systems to Revision Level "C1" and supersedes Revision A. The Level of Urgency has been updated from "I" to "R".

The FCO addresses two critical issues:

  1. F1005: Cache miss problems arising from the use of Address bit 23, which previously required a workaround involving memconfig.dat file modifications. This fix is essential for Console Revision D.
  2. F1010: Console power fail issues that could lead to VMS operating system crashes.

The solution involves upgrading specific hardware modules: the F1005 ADP Module and the F1010 CLK Module, both to Revision B1. The installation process, estimated at 2 hours, includes system shutdown, careful replacement of the specified modules using ESD precautions, power-up, and verification through a series of diagnostic tests. After successful installation and testing, the VMS Operating System is brought back online, and system documentation is updated. Parts for this FCO became available in July 1987, affecting an estimated population of 124 systems.
