FCO 85XBA-R002 Rev B, F1010 (CLK) module

This document is a Field Change Order (FCO 85XBA-R002, Revision B) detailing a retrofit for VAX 8500/8550 (851BA and 855BA) systems. The primary purpose is to upgrade the F1010 (CLK) module to Revision Level "B1" to resolve console power fail problems that can cause VMS to crash. This FCO also updates the KA85-AA to Rev "A1" and KA88-AA to Rev "C1" and supersedes Revision A.

The FCO is applicable to all VAX 8500/8550 systems and requires upgrading field spares stock. Installation is estimated to take 2 hours. The affected population is 124 units.

The installation procedure involves:

1. Shutting down the VMS system and powering off the machine.
2. Implementing strict ESD safety precautions.
3. Removing the existing F1010 module.
4. Installing the new F1010 Revision "B1" module (EQ-01452-01).
5. Packaging and returning the old module.
6. Powering on the CPU and running a series of diagnostics (SYSINIT, T/C, VERIFY MODULE ADP, DIABOO, EVKAA, EVKAB, EVKAE, EZKAX, EZCJA, EVCBB) to verify total CPU operation.
7. Bringing up the VMS Operating System.
8. Updating the Site Management Guide.
9. Reporting the FCO activity in the LARS system.
