FCO 82XBX-R002, Revision of the kernel to "B1"

Order Number: 21-20850-BB

This Field Change Order (FCO 82XBX-R002) mandates a retrofit for all 82XX systems to update the kernel to revision "B1," incorporating ECOs T1001-MK008 and T1001-YA-MK002. The update addresses critical issues such as cache invalidation, kernel stack problems (invalid, incomplete frames, AST delivery loops), and a new KDB50 diagnostic issue.

The installation, estimated at one hour, involves either reworking existing CPU modules (T1001-00 or T1001-YA) by replacing the Mchip (P/N 21-20850-BB, revision "E") or replacing the entire module, depending on its current revision. Strict electrostatic discharge (ESD) precautions with a VELOSTAT kit are required. The procedure includes system shutdown, module removal, Mchip or module replacement, application of revision markers, and running diagnostic tools (VDS, EBKAX, EBUCA) to update the CPU microcode and verify changes. Modules with part revisions AB1 and C1 cannot be returned for upgrade or credit and must be scrapped, while "D1" modules are eligible for return. Special tools, including a chip extraction tool and Loctite 414, are necessary. This FCO impacts an estimated 4,706 systems.
