This document serves as "DIGITAL HiTest Notes," detailing the interoperability test results and configuration guidelines for the Lotus Domino Windows NT AlphaServer 4x00 HiTest Suite. It outlines pre-qualified hardware and software configurations for medium- to high-end Lotus Domino users, emphasizing system reliability, application performance, and upgradability.
The Suite comprises Windows NT Server, Lotus Domino, and System Management Server (SMS), designed to run on AlphaServer 4000/4100 systems, offering high speed, availability, and reliability for a large number of Notes users. The document provides a HiTest Template with allowed ranges for components, including memory (512 MB to 2 GB), disks (5 to 20 4.3 GB disks), and RAID controllers.
It covers system installation and setup, including hardware installation, firmware updates (SRM and AlphaBIOS), disk storage (SCSI and RAID) configuration, EISA configuration, and the installation of Windows NT Server and Lotus Domino. Specific instructions for Lotus Domino include custom installation, enabling the web server, and dedicating disks/RAIDsets for mail and WWW data.
Interoperability tests were conducted over 40 hours using tools like NotesBench (for mail), STM Webclient (for web access), and STM I/O Tool (for file shares). These tests verified that business processes functioned correctly, with no errors reported and response times meeting acceptable performance criteria for both minimum (5 disks) and maximum (20 disks across multiple SCSI controllers with RAID 0+1 and RAID 5) configurations.
System limits and characterization data highlight that RAID disk set initialization can be time-consuming, and high-performance network services require the server to be on its own LAN segment, preferably with a Fast Ethernet switch. Backup and restore operations completed successfully without data corruption. Notably, no problems were encountered during testing for hardware, operating system, or application components.
