POWER SUPPLY INSTALLATION CARD

Order Number: EK-H7899-IN

This document serves as a quick reference guide for installing the H7899-AA 675 W redundant power supply option into a Compaq AlphaServer DS20 system. The installation process involves five main steps:

  1. Open the Pedestal Cabinet: This requires shutting down the system, unplugging the power cord, and removing the front door, top cover, and power compartment panel to access the internal components.
  2. Remove the Fan Tray: The fan cable needs to be unplugged from the power transport module, and four screws holding the fan tray must be removed before the fan can be taken out.
  3. Install the Power Supply: An internal screw is removed, and tie-wrapped cables are untied. The new power supply is then placed into the cabinet above the existing one and secured using four screws (previously removed from the fan tray) and the internal screw.
  4. Cable the Power Supply: All necessary cables are connected from the new power supply to the Power Distribution Module and the first supply, following the provided diagram. The power cord is also connected.
  5. Close the Pedestal Cabinet: The cabinet is reassembled by reversing the steps for opening it.

Finally, the installation is verified. For DIGITAL UNIX and OpenVMS systems, the show power command is used. For Windows NT systems, the show power command is issued from the SRM console (accessed by pressing the halt button shortly after power-on), followed by a system reset to boot Windows NT.
