It serves as a supplement to the existing DEC 3000 Models 600/600S AXP and 800/800S AXP Service Information manual, targeting Digital service personnel and self-maintenance customers.

Key contents include:

• System Overview and Parts Breakdown: Detailed illustrations and part numbers for the Model 700 and 900, identifying components unique to each.
• Updated LED Codes: Comprehensive tables for various diagnostic LED codes (Serial ROM, ASIC, Memory, NVR, SCC, NI, ISDN, SCSI, Console, and MIPS Emulator) and their corresponding action tables, superseding previous documentation. These codes help diagnose issues when the system fails to enter console mode.
• System Upgrade Information: Step-by-step procedures for upgrading a DEC 3000 Model 600 to a Model 700, and a Model 800 to a Model 900. These procedures detail necessary operating system (OSF/1 Version 2.1+ or VMS Version 6.1+) and firmware updates (Version 3.3+ for Model 700, 4.0+ for Model 900), hardware removal and installation (e.g., system modules, fan assemblies, cabling), and post-upgrade verification.
