AlphaServer ES40 Rackmount System Installation Guide

This document serves as an installation guide for service providers and self-maintenance customers, detailing the process of installing a Compaq AlphaServer ES40 system into a rack-mounting cabinet, specifically the AlphaServer M-Series cabinets (H9A10 Medium or H9A15 Tall).

The installation procedure is structured into several key steps:

1. Preparation: Unpacking the system and checking shipment contents, attaching mounting brackets and slide rails to the AlphaServer ES40 unit.
2. Cabinet Configuration: Marking the installation area on the cabinet rails, attaching the slide brackets to the cabinet rails, and stabilizing the cabinet using its built-in stabilizer bar or other means if using a different cabinet type.
3. System Installation: Using a material lift or other mechanical device (as the system is very heavy and requires at least two people) to slide the AlphaServer ES40 into the cabinet.
4. Post-Installation: Installing the interlock system (which ensures cabinet stability by allowing only one system drawer to be pulled out at a time), attaching the cable management arm, dressing and securing the cables, and finally, attaching the front bezel.

Required tools include a #2 Phillips screwdriver, 5/16-inch hex socket, extension bar, 5/64-inch and 2.5 mm Allen head wrenches, and a material lift or lift table.
