AlphaServer 1000 to AlphaServer 1000A Upgrade Option — Customer Notice

Order Number: EK-ALPH5-RN

This document, dated February 1996, is a customer notice regarding the AlphaServer 1000A Upgrade Option. This upgrade allows users to transfer memory, hard disk drives, CD-ROM, and other components from an existing AlphaServer 1000 to create an AlphaServer 1000A. The resulting system will feature a fast wide SCSI controller and an increased number of PCI slots (three primary and four on a secondary bridge).

The notice details the specific parts included in the upgrade option, such as the CPU (233 Mhz or 266 Mhz), System Module, Power Supply, Customer Documentation Kit, and 64 Mb ECC SIMM.

Crucially, customers are instructed to compare their current AlphaServer 1000 software revision with a table of minimum acceptable revisions required for the AlphaServer 1000A (e.g., Windows NT Server V3.51, UNIX V3.2d-2, OVMS V6.2-1H2). If the current software revision is lower than those listed, new software must be ordered and installed. If it meets or exceeds the minimum, it is compatible. For detailed installation, removal, and replacement procedures, customers are directed to the AlphaServer 1000 Owner's Guide.
