RA90/6000 Cabinet Series

This document serves as an installation guide for Digital Customer Services engineers, detailing the process of installing one or two RA90 disk drives and associated RA90-CK and RA90-PA upgrade kits into a VAX 6000-series processor cabinet.

The guide emphasizes critical safety and ESD precautions, stating that only qualified personnel should perform the installation due to hazardous voltages and the need for specific handling procedures. It outlines mandatory thermal stabilization and unpacking steps for the RA90 disk drive.

The installation procedure covers:

1. System Preparation: Powering down the VAX 6000-series cabinet, replacing switched H405 power controllers with unswitched ones, relocating the rear ESD packet, and upgrading the system cabinet's front door for RA90 OCP access.
2. Hardware Installation: Installing guide rail plate assemblies and attaching rear lockdown brackets within the cabinet.
3. RA90 Disk Drive Installation: Removing the RA90 Operator Control Panel (OCP) to prevent damage, attaching chassis retaining brackets, sliding the RA90 disk drive into the cabinet, and then reinstalling the OCP.
4. Cabling and Power-Up: Routing and connecting power cords and I/O cables, followed by powering up the system cabinet and then the RA90 disk drive.
5. Configuration and Diagnostics: Running power-up resident diagnostics, performing OCP lamp tests, spinning up the drive, and setting the unit address numbers via the OCP.
