VAXLISP/VMS Installation Guide

This document, the VAX LISP/VMS Installation Guide (Order No. AA-Y922D-TE, July 1987), provides instructions for system managers on how to install, verify, and manage the VAX LISP/VMS software on the VMS operating system (Version 4.4).

The guide is structured into three main phases:

1. Preparation for Installation: This section outlines essential prerequisites, including required system disk space (approximately 60,000 free blocks), global pages (5060) and sections (4), virtual page count (minimum 16,000 pages), and various user authorization quotas (paging file, working set, working set extent, and user disk block). It emphasizes using the AUTOGEN utility to re-compute system parameters if adjustments are needed.
2. Installation and Verification: This chapter details the step-by-step procedure using the VMSINSTAL utility. It covers starting the installation, options for purging old files, selecting specific software savesets (executable image, documentation, source code examples, utility libraries), specifying installation directories, and the ability to save previous VAX LISP versions. It also describes running the Installation Verification Procedure (IVP) to confirm a successful installation.
3. Completing the Installation: This final phase covers post-installation configuration. It instructs users to modify the system startup file (SYS$MANAGER:SYSTARTUP.COM) and the VAX LISP-specific startup file (SYS$MANAGER:LISPSITE.COM). These modifications include defining LISP system logical names (e.g., time zone, site identification) and installing shareable sections for improved multi-user efficiency. The guide also provides specific recommendations for system parameters and user authorization quotas for AI VAXstations.

An appendix is included for problem determination and reporting product defects.
