VAX LISP/VMS Installation Guide

This document is the VAX LISP/VMS Installation Guide (Order Number: AA-Y922C-TE), published in May 1986.

It provides detailed instructions for installing, verifying, and managing VAX LISP Version 2.0 on VAX/VMS and MicroVMS operating systems (Version 4.2).

The guide is structured into three main parts:

1. Preparation for Installation: Outlines essential prerequisites including VAX LISP naming conventions, contents of the distribution kit, VAX/VMS system management considerations, and detailed system resource requirements such as product directory setup, system disk blocks, global pages and sections, known file list (KFILSTCNT), virtual pages (VIRTUALPAGECNT), and user authorization quotas (PGFLQUOTA, WSQUOTA, WSEXTENT, PERMQUOTA).
2. Installation and Verification: Describes how to use the VMSINSTAL procedure to install VAX LISP, including options for saving previous versions, and how to verify the installation through an Installation Verification Procedure (IVP). Sample new and update installation procedures are provided.
3. Completing the Installation: Details post-installation configuration steps, such as modifying the system startup file (SYS$MANAGER:SYSTARTUP.COM) and the VAX LISP-specific startup file (SYS$MANAGER:LISPSITE.COM) to define logical names (e.g., LISP$TIMEZONE, LISP$SHORTSITE_NAME) and install shareable sections for multi-user efficiency. It also provides recommendations for tuning AI VAXstation performance by adjusting system parameters and user authorization quotas.

An appendix offers guidance on problem determination and reporting for any issues encountered with VAX LISP.
