VtAlpha-CS (Classic Systems) Product Description

This document describes vtAlpha-CS (Classic Systems), a product from Advanced Virtualization Technologies (AVT) that allows Alpha computer systems to be moved to a modern environment (X86 computers, virtual machines, or cloud) without requiring software migration. It emulates the original Alpha hardware, enabling Alpha software to run unchanged.

vtAlpha-CS supports specific Alpha server models (AlphaServer 2000, 2100, 4000, 4100) and can emulate up to 4 virtual CPUs and 8 GB of virtual memory. It supports OpenVMS and Tru64 as guest operating systems, as well as clustering.

The system provides a virtualized storage subsystem that seamlessly interfaces with modern storage solutions like SAS, SATA, SAN, and NFS, while presenting them to the Alpha software as traditional storage devices. It also supports physical and logical disks, tapes, CD-ROMs, and direct SCSI devices.

Network connectivity is handled through various Ethernet adapters and virtual network switch support. Serial lines are also emulated, including support for the PBXDA adapter. License protection is managed via a USB Smart Card device.

System management is facilitated by the vtMonitor tool, offering an intuitive interface for controlling the virtual Alpha environment. vtAlpha creates a secure environment with configurable security levels and communication protocols. It installs directly on the host hardware, eliminating the need for a pre-installed operating system like Windows or Linux.

The product offers a base license for one virtual Alpha system with one CPU, with options for additional CPU licenses. Annual Software Support and Disaster Recovery Licenses are also available.
