SA100 Storage Subsystem Installation & Users Guide

Order Number: EK-SA100-IM

This document is the SA100 Storage Subsystem Installation and User's Guide by Digital Equipment Corporation, published in November 1991.

It provides comprehensive information for setting up and using the SA100 Storage Subsystem, an 18.2 Gbyte tape backup system with an 800 KBytes/s sustained data rate, using an STI bus interface. The SA100 consists of a magazine tape subsystem and a SCSI/STI adapter assembly, and does not require special site preparation.

The guide is structured into four main sections:

  1. User Information: Provides general details about the SA100, including its specifications (capacity, performance, power requirements, physical dimensions, environmental standards, and certifications) and lists related documentation, specifically the Tx857 Series Magazine Tape Subsystem Owner's Manual.
  2. Physical Installation: Covers site planning considerations (space, power, and environmental requirements), detailed instructions for STI interconnect cabling (connecting cables, assigning unique unit numbers, and explicitly stating that K.STI modules do not support the SA100), and a list of compatible STI cables.
  3. Configuration: Explains the various controls and indicators located on the SCSI/STI adapter module, such as Port Select A/B, Fault, Ready, and Unit Number.
  4. Acceptance Testing: Outlines procedures for verifying the SA100's functionality using two diagnostics: In-Line Tape Diagnostic (ILTAPE) and In-Line Exerciser (ILEXER), both run from the HSC ASCII port.
