This document is the Maintenance Guide for the RWZ01 Magneto-Optical Disk Subsystem, published by Digital Equipment Corporation in June 1991.
Primarily intended for Digital Customer Service personnel responsible for maintaining the RWZ01, the guide covers:
- Overview and System Description: Features of the RWZ01, its system configuration, how data is written and read, internal structure, and the function of each part (including the disk drive and SCSI controller sections).
- Installation and Configuration: Details on connecting the RWZ01, checking and setting SCSI ID numbers, and configuring switchpack switches.
- Failure Handling: Extensive guidance on diagnosing and correcting general failures, interpreting error codes (Sense Keys and Additional Sense Codes), and performing diagnosis tests for VAXstation and DECstation systems.
- Maintenance: Cautions for safe use, proper disk handling and storage, and instructions for cleaning the optical head.
- Appendices: Comprehensive specifications of the RWZ01 disk drive and its disks, a parts list (including SCSI cables and power cords), a list of safety and EMC regulations it complies with (FCC, UL, TUV, VCCI, etc.), and a theoretical explanation of laser optical disks, covering data writing/reading principles, disk format, and defect management strategies.
