ADE

This document is a user's guide for Digital Equipment Corporation's Application Development Environment (ADE) software, version 2.1, published in November 1982. It is designed to assist both new and experienced non-programmers in using ADE to streamline office tasks such as record-keeping, calculations, and report generation.

The guide is organized into three main parts:

• Part One: Beginning to Use ADE introduces the software, its fundamental terms and concepts (like worksheets, tables, columns, verbs, and reports), and offers a sample session along with instructions for an online tutorial.
• Part Two: Using More of ADE delves into advanced features for experienced users, covering optional command phrases, more powerful data manipulation commands (e.g., combining, merging, updating), creating and managing "verbs" (automated command sequences), and customizing reports.
• Part Three: Reference Information provides an alphabetical listing of all ADE commands, detailing their purpose, format, and effects. It also includes appendices on ADE size limits, terminal information, error messages, and file formats, alongside a glossary and index.
