This document serves as an installation guide for VAX CDD/Plus software, Version 4.1, targeting system managers. It outlines a three-phase installation process for systems running VMS Version 5.0 or higher.
The first phase, "Planning for Installation," details essential pre-installation steps. These include registering software licenses, verifying system requirements (hardware, software, user privileges, disk space, and system parameters like GBLPAGES, GBLSECTIONS, and LOCKIDTBL_MAX), backing up Rdb/VMS databases and CDD/Plus dictionaries, and ensuring no interactive users or Rdb/VMS monitors/DECnet are active. Specific considerations for reinstallation are also covered.
The second phase, "Installing VAX CDD/Plus," provides step-by-step instructions for using the VMSINSTAL.COM procedure. This involves copying the kit, responding to prompts regarding system disk backup, device and product names, mounting media, confirming license registration, and potentially installing a Run-Time Only Rdb/VMS kit. It guides the user through specifying locations for the root and template dictionaries, selecting language support files, running the Installation Verification Procedure (IVP), purging replaced files, and creating the RDB$REMOTE account. A troubleshooting section addresses common installation issues related to privileges, disk space, system parameters, and other software conflicts.
The third phase, "After Installing VAX CDD/Plus," describes post-installation tasks crucial for full functionality. These include reinstalling other products that rely on CDD/Plus, adapting the software for VAXcluster environments, editing system startup and shutdown files, upgrading dictionary protocols, converting existing Rdb/VMS databases and definitions to CDO format, re-enabling VMS HELP access, adjusting user account quotas, and tuning lock-related parameters. It also advises on reporting any problems encountered. Appendices provide sample installation logs and details on the Installation Verification Procedure.
