This document is the assembly and installation manual for the DECkit11-M, an instrument I/O interface designed by Digital Equipment Corporation.
The kit enables a PDP-11 processor to:
- Read 34 bits of data from peripheral instrumentation via an M1621 DVM data input interface module.
- Write 24 bits of control data to peripheral instrumentation via an M1623 instrument remote control interface module.
- Accommodate one Small Peripheral Controller (SPC) option.
- Provide interrupt capability to the processor for input data readiness or peripheral status.
Key Features and Operations:
- Designed for TTL logic levels, simple I/O techniques, and unidirectional I/O signals.
- Data transfers occur over the Unibus on a master/slave basis, with bus requests made at priority level four (BR4).
- The kit consists of a prewired system unit mounting panel and five M-series modules.
- Assembly involves unpacking, visual inspection, selecting device (M105) and interrupt vector (M7821) addresses via jumper configurations, and setting jumper selections on M1621 and M1623 modules for specific system applications.
- The DECkit11-M offers variations for input-only or output-only interfaces, accommodating different numbers of data bits by using multiple M1621, M1623, or M1801 modules.
- Installation requires securing the mounting panel into a PDP-11 processor or expansion box, and connecting Unibus, power, and user I/O cables. It emphasizes considering Unibus loading, priority requirements, space, and power.
- Basic operation involves program-controlled or interrupt-controlled data transfers, with adjustable one-shot pulse generators for timing.
Appendices provide detailed parts lists and pin assignments for the M1621 input and M1623 output connectors.
