This document is a user guide for the Digital Equipment Corporation StorageWorks Solutions DWZZB 16-bit SCSI Bus Converter, specifically covering the DWZZB-AA (tabletop) and DWZZB-VW (StorageWorks shelf-mounted) models.
The primary function of these SCSI-2 and draft SCSI-3 compliant converters is to extend the maximum length of a SCSI bus and to enable connectivity between otherwise incompatible differential and single-ended SCSI physical buses. They support 16-bit data transfer rates up to 20 MB/s and do not consume SCSI device IDs. Key features include self-resetting fuses for overload protection, automatic power-up and bus resets, and glitch elimination.
The guide details procedures for installing and configuring the converters, which can operate in either an end-bus or mid-bus position. This includes instructions for setting appropriate bus terminations (factory-installed for end-bus, user-configurable for mid-bus), determining optimal system configurations (considering bus type, speed, and length), and selecting the correct shielded SCSI "P" cables (BN21K/L series). It highlights a limitation of using a maximum of two converters in series between devices.
This guide is intended for customers and Digital employees responsible for configuring, installing, and maintaining StorageWorks subsystems and their components.
