This manual provides comprehensive information for the RT02-A 30 Character Keyboard Remote Terminal, covering its installation, theory of operation, programming, and maintenance.
The RT02-A is a compact, self-contained alphanumeric display terminal designed for interactive computer communications, especially for numeric data and limited alphanumeric display. It features a 16-pad keyboard that generates 30 discrete characters, which are then processed by an M7396 Keyboard Encoder Module. The terminal can receive, store, and display 32 alphanumeric characters from a 64-character modified ASCII repertoire on a single-line gas discharge panel.
Communication with computers or modems occurs via standard teletype (TTY) line units (4-wire full duplex) or EIA RS-232-C compatible modem interface signals, using separate connectors on the rear panel. The M7390 Communications Module handles necessary timing, control logic, and internal/external interfacing, including serial-to-parallel and parallel-to-serial data conversion. The M7395 Display Control Module manages the alphanumeric display, decoding incoming data into displayable characters or control signals such as CLEAR and BLANK DISABLE. Power is supplied by an H753 Power Supply.
Maintenance procedures include preventive checks (mechanical and electrical inspections, diagnostic tests) and corrective actions (fault isolation, adjustments, and component replacement). Diagnostic programs for PDP-8 and PDP-11 systems are available for evaluating the RT02-A's functionality. The manual also details assembly/disassembly instructions for its various modules and components.
