GIGI Exerciser

User Guide

Order Number: AA-L401A-TK

This document serves as the User Guide for the GIGI Exerciser, a dial-up test program designed to diagnose specific hardware graphics functions of the GIGI terminal. Published in August 1981 by Digital Equipment Corporation, it outlines the procedures for preparing the terminal, connecting to the exerciser program, and running a suite of eight diagnostic tests.

The exerciser includes the following tests: Color Bar, Display, Screen Alignment Pattern, Communications, Writing/Screen Color, Max Vector, Vector Generator, and Keyboard Exerciser tests. The first three tests mirror the terminal's built-in self-tests, while the latter five are new. The guide provides detailed descriptions of each test, expected visual outcomes, and troubleshooting steps if errors occur, such as checking cables, swapping monitors, or indicating potential terminal repair needs.

Instructions are given for setting up the GIGI terminal, including specific SET-UP parameters (e.g., LL Onln, PE Off, XO On, CI EIA, PK Off) and installing a 20mA loopback connector. To initiate the exerciser, users are directed to dial specific phone numbers for 300 or 1200 baud connections, log in using "GGDIAG" as the username and "PROBLEM" as the password, and then press RETURN to start the tests. The document also describes the process for disconnecting from the computer once all tests are completed.
