DEC STD 126

Packaged Systems Documentation Structure

Order Number: EL-00126-00

This document, DEC STD 126 REV. A, outlines the minimum engineering drawings and documents required to properly document Digital's packaged systems for manufacturing, assembly, and support. Its primary purpose is to standardize documentation, minimize the number of drawings, and eliminate information duplication.

Key aspects of the standard include:

  • Two-Level Documentation Structure:

    1. Packaged System-Level Documentation: Primarily consists of Packaged System Parts Lists, which identify all variations of a standard packaged system.
    2. Kernel-Level Documentation: Applies to the basic hardware configuration (the "kernel") and includes four essential elements:
      • Drawing Directory (DD): A list of specific drawings for the kernel.
      • Parts List (PL): A detailed list of all parts and options within the kernel, designed to complement the system-level parts list without duplication.
      • System Arrangement Drawing (SA): A multi-page document showing the physical arrangement of kernel components, power and signal interconnections, and detailed configuration instructions. It covers aspects like cabinet arrangement, module utilization, cabling, option configuration, and product safety data.
      • Arrangement Drawing (AR): An optional drawing, required when additional mechanical detail, such as cabinetry perspectives or complex cable routing, is needed for assembly.
  • Responsibilities: The standard details the roles of Design Engineering, Engineering Services, Manufacturing Engineering, Site Design Libraries, and Packaged Systems Engineering in the creation, review, and release of this documentation.

  • Scope: It applies to all packaged systems developed and manufactured by Digital, specifically serving the needs of organizations involved in packaged systems assembly. It references other Digital standards for related topics like system identification and field maintenance.
