DEC STD 124

This document, DEC Standard 124 Revision A (dated October 1978), provides formatting standards for hardware-related product manuals produced on typeset media.

• Promote uniformity in Digital Equipment Corporation's hardware literature.
• Ensure readability, especially for manuals published on microfiche.

The standard is mandatory for personnel involved in preparing such documentation and must be applied to all typeset manuals destined for microfiche. It exclusively governs formatting procedures, including page layout, typography (e.g., 11-point Times Roman on 12 points of lead for body text), headings, lists, examples, notes, footnotes, tables, figures, indexes, and page numbering. It explicitly states that it does not apply to software documentation.
